The Newport Art Museum has a rich history of printmaking exhibitions and instruction, which has included The Boston Printmakers' work. A venerable instituion based in Boston, The Boston Printmakers includes interanationally recognized members and boasts five from Rhode Island. The group will be sharing both prints and recipes in a forthcoming exhibition and catalogue called "Palate to Plate."
Printmakers president, Liz Shepherd, writes, "Take almost anything that the great Julia Child said about cooking and it can also be said about printmaking: 'You learn about great food by finding the best there is, whether simple or luxurious. Then you savor it, analzye it, and discuss it with your companions, and you compare it with other experiences.' Savoring, analyzing and discussing are what printmakers do when we get together. Like cooks who work tirelessly to perfect puff pastry, some printmakers cannot rest until an aquatint is dense, inky and mysterious. Once they figure out the process, they love to find someone to share it with, just as cooks love to share their concoctions."
