Newport Art Museum hosts Christopher Benson retrospective
October 5, 2017
RISD graduate comes from a family of Newport artists.
If you’re into painting, I mean pictures that are lost in a love affair with the craft of painting, with the materials, design, atmosphere and heart, then make sure you catch Christopher Benson’s fabulous retrospective at the Newport Art Museum.
It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time, covering four creative decades that produced stunning landscapes and portraits, with a foray or two into the world of abstraction. He even takes on the most clichéd subject of all — crashing surf, and takes it to new, unexpected levels.
