Newport Art Museum Awarded $21,468 RISCA Grant

(Newport, RI - July 28, 2016) - Newport Art Museum was awarded a $21,468 grant from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) as it announced its first round of grant awards for the 2016-2017 season. Grant recipients in 2015 reported that over $134 million was spent by arts organizations and artists in that year in projects funded by the State Arts Council. Over $5 million individuals and visitors participated in grant-funded activities during that year. According to RISCA, state funding for the arts contributes significantly to Rhode Island's economy and quality of life.

Newport Art Museum Introduces New Public Guided Tours

(Newport, RI, July 6, 2016) - The Newport Art Museum is pleased to announce the addition of new PUBLIC TOURS of the Museum, FREE with ADMISSION. On Tuesdays at 11:30am, beginning on July 12, the Museum will offer a 45-minute "Highlights of the Collection Tour", led by one of our trained Gallery Guides.

Newport Art Museum to welcome Summer Exhibitions at Opening Reception

(Newport, RI - May 27, 2016)  The Newport Art Museum will welcome three new exhibitions to its galleries this summer, including a collaborative exhibition by a mother and daughter, a solo artist, and a group show. Of Water & Bone: New Work by Gayle Wells Mandle and Julia Mandle, This Newport: Photographs by Thomas Palmer, and Still Life Lives: Rhode Island Perspectives will be on view this summer and will be celebrated during an Opening Reception on Friday, June 3, from 5-7pm. Admission is free for Newport Art Museum Members and a $10 suggested donation for the general public. There will be light refreshments and a cash bar. Joan Hall Wins Newport Annual Best-In-Show Award

(Newport, RI - February 9, 2016) - The Newport Art Museum is pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 Newport Annual Members' Juried Exhibition. One of the Museum's most anticipated annual events, this exhibition highlights top talent from the region, bringing together an eclectic mix of art sourced from Rhode Island and beyond. Entries are open, calling established and emerging artists alike to submit their work for exhibition and review. The resulting mix of art on display is always surprising and diverse, showcasing the varied interests and focus of our region's passionate artists.

RI Artist Mary Dondero Exhibit: "Small Points in Time"

(Newport, RI - January 16, 2016) - Mary Dondero’s “Small Points in Time” is on view through May 1, 2016. The exhibition draws inspiration from both natural environments and the artist’s individual sense of place. Rather than pin down a simple, observable subject, this exhibition aims to instead capture and abstract the hidden beauty behind the elusive, fleeting feelings and experiences within the “constant state of impermanence in which we live.”

Susan Saarinen to Speak at Newport Art Museum's
Annual Meeting on June 24

NEWPORT, RI (June 10, 2015) - Susan Saarinen will be the guest speaker at the Newport Art Museum's Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 24 at 5:30 p.m.  Saarinen is the principal of Saarinen Landscape Architecture in Golden, Colorado. She is the daughter of architect Eero Saarinen and artist Lilian Louisa Swann Saarinen.  She is the granddaughter of architect Eliel Saarinen and artist Louise Saarinen.  Her presentation will focus on growing up in a creative environment that celebrates family, art and architecture.

Newport Art Museum Appoints Diedrich as
New Executive Director

NEWPORT, RI (April 1, 2015) - The Board of Trustees of the Newport Art Museum appointed Norah Diedrich as its new executive director. Diedrich was previously Director of the Evanston Art Center in Evanston, Illinois.

Now Available

NEWPORT, RI (March 13, 2015) - The Newport Art Museum invites the public to experience its flagship building , the historic John N.A. Griswold House, via a new multi-media tour. The Tour, narrated by architectural historian Richard Guy Wilson, is now available at GriswoldHouseTour.org and can be viewed from any personal computer, tablet, smartphone, or mobile device.
