6 pm Newport Art Museum (76 Bellevue Avenue)
Gala co-chairs Elizabeth Ann Kahane, Molly de Ramel, and John Royall invite you to join us for a masked ball in support of the Newport Art Museum. All gala proceeds will benefit the Museum’s exhibitions, education, public programs, collections, community outreach, and preservation of its historic buildings.
Cocktails at 6pm / Dinner at 7:30pm
Guests will enjoy dancing to the music of Alex Donner and his Orchestra and be treated to a special performance by Metropolitan Opera singers.
We will debut "Newport Sex Festival" paintings by George Condo, curated by Dodie Kazanjian and an original multi-media installation "For Tad and Dodie" by Tony Oursler. Other surprises are planned throughout the evening.
Attire: Masks, Black Tie Optional. Bring your own mask or purchase an artist-made mask at the Museum on Sunday afternoon June 4.
This year’s gala honorees, Dodie Kazanjian and Calvin Tomkins, are two of the world’s most celebrated arts writers.
Since 1989, Dodie Kazanjian has covered the art world for Vogue, where she has identified and profiled many of the leading young artists of our time. She is also the founding director of Gallery Met, the contemporary art space at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Her books include Icons, Dodie Goes Shopping, and Alex, a biography of the legendary Alexander Liberman, which she co-authored with Calvin Tomkins.
Calvin Tomkins has been a staff writer for The New Yorker since 1960. His profile subjects have included everyone from Marcel Duchamp and Buckminster Fuller to Damien Hirst and Frank Gehry. His many books include Living Well is the Best Revenge, Off the Wall: A Portrait of Robert Rauschenberg, The Bride and the Bachelors, and the seminal Duchamp: A Biography.
