Second Saturdays

Second Saturday image

Join us on the second Saturday of every month for engaging family-oriented programming designed to inspire young minds and satisfy the curiosity of every member of the family.  Each Second Saturday is uniquely curated based on a theme, and includes a variety of activities geared for ages 3-10, and their parents.

Second Saturday begins at 10:30 am on the second Saturday of each month.

Each Second Saturday activity is free with paid Museum admission. Museum members and youth under 18 are always free to visit the Museum. Please consider becoming a member of the Museum to receive this and many other benefits!

Second Saturday is generously supported by the Hartfield Foundation.

Can art inspire change and a guitar save the whales?

Yes, it is happening!

Art and music are coming together at Second Saturday at the Newport Art Museum to raise awareness of the man made threats to our oceans and to our whales.

Look at stunning large-scale work of art by Joan Hall titled, Sea of Heartbreak and listen to music from the Whale Guitar Project-saving whales through music.

Wet Paint!

It’s time to get the whole family involved in the biggest community art-making experience of the summer. Join in the fun of Wet Paint Weekend: a marquee philanthropic event in Newport. Spend Saturday painting en plein air (outside!) and donate your painting to the Museum for the Silent Auction Saturday night and Sunday. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate.

How it works: Second Saturday begins at the Museum at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 11. Each youth will be provided with a canvas and a list of great outdoor locations to explore and paint. Bring your own art supplies - pencil, pen, pastel, paint, and collage. Whisk your masterpiece back to the Museum Saturday afternoon and we’ll install it. Then, join us for the Saturday evening Preview Party as bidding begins!

It’s free to submit a work of art, and artists receive free admission to the Preview Party for themselves and a guest.

The Wet Paint Second Saturday activity is free and will not involve a Guided Close Looking Tour.
