Creative and curious people founded the Art Association of Newport in 1912 – artists, thinkers, writers – people who understood that art is our link with the past, a reflection on the present, and our gift to the future. It helps us to celebrate our roots and to find our place in history. Art teaches us how to see, hear and feel the world – to express ourselves, our dreams, our visions. Art saves the past and celebrates the future by preserving our cultural heritage. Our founding members believed that art mattered in 1912. It still matters. One hundred years later, the Newport Art Museum continues to enhance community life as a shared place for the arts, ideas and culture, where creative and curious people come together.

Training the Artist's Eye - A Centennial Project
It's all about INSPIRATION: That's how art historian Noelle King describes this series of eight afternoon conversations. Inspired by the Museum’s history, collections and current exhibitions, we'll ask, "How do artists get inspired and what do they do with that inspiration? How does it translate into their work?" Field trips to the Newport Historical Society's Museum & Shop at Brick Market and to the Redwood Library & Athenaeum make this series even more engaging. Learn more here.
