MUSE Opening 12/10/09
The MUSE Opening Reception on December 10, 2009.

Since 2004, MUSE at the Newport Art Museum has been providing opportunities for students to visit amazing cultural collections and historic sites in Newport County, and to curate their very own exhibition at the Museum. MUSE is supported in partnership with the Institute for Museum and Library Services in Washington, D.C.

The goal of MUSE is to expose students to careers in Curatorial Studies, Site Management and Museum Administration within the school curriculum through direct interaction with on-site personnel. The excitement of seeing beautiful historic sites and museum collections combined with the opportunity to discuss specific issues with curators and artists effectively engages students and helps them to envision mounting their own exhibition at the Museum. Students may continue these activities through summer internships at the Museum.

By introducing the MUSE students to the curatorial experience and the range of museum work the goes on every day at institutions large and small, we open their futures up to new career possibilities.
