Twenty-four artists, two challenges, one exhibition: members of the Printmakers' Network of Southern New England (PNSNE) have assembled a diverse and arresting array of original prints for "MICRO/MACRO," opening at the Newport Art Museum on September 3, 2011 and running through December 31, 2011. Size was both an inspiration and a limitating factor for the artists, each of whom responded to at least one of two challenges. Some created a limited edition of small "MICRO" prints (no larger than 5 x 7 inches). Others created large "MACRO" prints (18 x 24 inches or larger) for the exhibition. Beyond the size extremes, each individual artist was free to choose any technique, style, subject and material. Using everything from traditional wood, copper, and stone to modern polymers and digital technology, PNSNE members explore a variety of issues in this exhibition and stretch themselves to master their chosen techniques. The Museum is planning a series of printmaking workshops, talks and demonstrations by PNSNE members, art educators and special guests to coincide with "MICRO/MACRO."
