"Zombie Guy" Winner of Virtual Portrait Gallery!

Arthur Mead's "Zombie Guy" is the number one portrait in the Newport Art Museum's Virtual Portrait Gallery. Arthur used acrylic and paint markers on canvas to create the art work.  Juror John Kotula selected Arthur's work as a finalist, then 285 of our fans voted to put "Zombie Guy" at the top of the podium.

Here's what John had to say about the piece. "Wait a minute! This is a serious contest sponsored by a serious museum. What is this doing here? One of the best things artists can do for us is stick a pin in the balloon of our pretentiousness."

Thank you to everyone who submitted a portrait! The Gallery "walls" were filled with the diverse talents of many creative people. It was a delight to see this work and others "hanging" there.

We are considering whether or not to re-open the Virtual Gallery with another theme. What do you think? Should we do it again? You can weigh in on this question by emailing info@NewportArtMuseum.org or on our page on Facebook. We'd love to hear from you.
