Sharon Floyd
Not just for scrapbooking anymore...
Scrapbooking stickers on car

Upon submitting Not just for scrapbooking anymore... to the Virtual Gallery, Sharon Floyd explained, "I thought it needed some color. I bought a package of scrapbooking stickers and next thing you know, it's butterfly city." The stickers have now been on Sharon's car almost nine months and have survived the elements beautifully. When he selected her image as a finalist, guest juror Tim Philbrick called it "useful and humorous in a long tradition".

Sharon describes Not just for scrapbooking anymore... as a work in progress. She plans to add more decals saying that (excluding the windows) she has about 3/4 of the vehicle covered and is now painting the interior two tone blue.

Although not an artist by profession, she works for Home Depot and Kohl's by day, Sharon describes herself as "an eccentric". When she isn't busy scrapbooking her car, she enjoys photographing bugs in their natural habitat and has even won an editors choice award for her poetry. Of her car, she says, "I love seeing people smile when I drive by and kids with gapping mouths."

We asked participants to submit functional art they created, or artful embellishments on everyday objects, to our Virtual Gallery. Guest juror and studio furniture maker, Timothy Philbrick selected four finalists and the Museum's fans on Facebook voted Sharon's butterfly covered car as the their favorite!

Interested in submitting your work? We have another Virtual Gallery starting June 25th called "Art on the Wing". Click here for details.
